Both China and the US play a pivotal role in moving things forward in the climate discussions, as you point out, if they would show agreement in moving forward, progress would be made, as now only Europe, seems to be swimming in the right direction (but Europe has very little global influence, actually, even if this may hurt their self-image).

I guess we&#039;ve been used to seeing the US taking the lead and finding itself usually on the &quot;right&quot; sides of issues in the last 100 years, the American century. As the Chinese century is emerging, the baton is being passed but the old leader is too tired and half blind, so he finds himself usually on the wrong side or too late to action, while the new one is not yet sure enough nor does he have enough credibility (for ex democratic credibility, for one) to take the lead...so we are there...looking at huge issues and probably we will not be able to solve them on this One planet of ours anytime soon.
